UX Case Study

Dashboard Design Project

Overview

Glacier is redesigning the self-service Digital Platforms websites which clients use to view and manage their investment portfolios.

Problem

The dashboard should effectively communicate clients’ investment information, enable easy management, and provide a seamless user experience.

Process

To ensure an intuitive and effective dashboard design, I began by thoroughly exploring the existing website’s features and functionalities.

This deep dive helped me grasp the system’s  capabilities, constraints, and current user experience. Next, I shifted focus to the users—analysing their needs, behaviours, and pain points. By identifying the key tasks they aim to accomplish on the dashboard, I was able to prioritise features and workflows that align with their goals. This user-cantered approach ensures the design not only functions well but also delivers a seamless and efficient experience.

R

Maintaining Visual Consistency

Retaining the same header across the dashboard ensures a cohesive and familiar experience for users.
Brand Identity & Trust: A persistent header reinforces brand recognition and professionalism by maintaining a unified look and feel.
Predictable Navigation: Users rely on consistent placement of key UI elements for efficient interaction.

Seamless User Flow & Wayfinding

A stable footer provides essential reference points, such as contact links, legal information, and secondary navigation.

Keeping it consistent. Reduces Disorientation: Users can always access help or additional information without backtracking.
Improves Accessibility: A predictable structure supports users with cognitive or motor impairments by minimizing unexpected layout shifts.

Alignment with Best UX Practices

This approach follows industry standards (e.g., Jakob’s Law), which emphasise that users prefer interfaces that behave consistently with their past experiences.
Faster Task Completion: Users spend less time relearning navigation, improving efficiency.

Scalability: A reusable header/footer simplifies future updates and ensures uniformity across new features or pages.
